Air Conditioner BTU Sizing Calculator

Air Conditioner BTU Sizing: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers room area (m2 or sq ft). Stub page while the tool and its worked example are prepared.

Air Conditioner BTU Sizing Calculator is a planned calculator in the home and energy section of Super Calculator, covering home and garden.

What this calculator will compute

Inputs: room area (m2 or sq ft), ceiling height (m), sun exposure (label), occupants (n), insulation level (label) and climate zone (label).

Outputs: required capacity (BTU/h or kW), recommended unit size (label) and running cost estimate (currency/yr).

Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: A simplified sizing rule allocates about 20 BTU per hour per square foot of floor area, adjusted for ceiling height, occupancy, sun exposure, insulation and kitchen appliances. The rigorous method is a full cooling load calculation, and oversizing causes short cycling and poor dehumidification.
