Audio File Size And Bitrate Calculator

Audio File Size And Bitrate: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers sample rate. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet.

Audio File Size And Bitrate Calculator is a planned calculator in the technology section of Super Calculator, covering computer science and technical.

What this calculator will compute

Inputs: sample rate, bit depth, channel count, duration, compressed format and bitrate and variable bitrate mode.

Outputs: file size, data rate, storage per hour, maximum recordable duration for a card size and dynamic range from bit depth.

Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Uncompressed PCM size in bytes = sample rate times bit depth times channels times duration divided by 8. Compressed formats use the nominal bitrate directly: size in MB = bitrate in kbps times seconds divided by 8192. Nyquist requires a sample rate above twice the highest reproduced frequency.
