Blood Transfusion Volume: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers weight (kg). Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet.

Blood Transfusion Volume Calculator is a planned calculator in the health section of Super Calculator, covering clinical dosing and scores.

What this calculator will compute

Inputs: weight (kg), current hemoglobin, target hemoglobin, product hematocrit and patient age group.

Outputs: transfusion volume (mL), number of units and expected hemoglobin rise.

Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Pediatric transfusion volume in mL = weight in kg * desired hemoglobin rise in g/dL * a factor of about 3 to 4 depending on the hematocrit of the unit. In adults, one unit of packed red cells raises hemoglobin by roughly 1 g/dL.
