Bolt Torque And Preload Calculator
Bolt Torque And Preload: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers bolt size and thread pitch. Stub page while the tool and its worked example are prepared.
Bolt Torque And Preload Calculator is a planned calculator in the engineering section of Super Calculator, covering mechanical engineering.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: bolt size and thread pitch, grade or property class, lubrication condition, target preload percentage, joint material and thread series.
Outputs: torque in Nm and lb-ft, target preload, proof and yield loads, clamp force, torque angle alternative and stripping length check.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: T = K D F, where K is the nut factor (approximately 0.20 dry, 0.15 lubricated), D the nominal diameter and F the target preload, commonly 65% to 75% of proof load. Preload accuracy by torque control is roughly plus or minus 25% because of friction variability.
