Buffer pH Calculator (Henderson-Hasselbalch)
Buffer pH Calculator (Henderson-Hasselbalch): a planned Super Calculator tool. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet.
Buffer pH Calculator (Henderson-Hasselbalch) is a planned calculator in the science section of Super Calculator, covering chemistry.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: acid and conjugate base concentrations or masses, pKa or buffer system, target pH, total buffer concentration and ionic strength.
Outputs: buffer pH, required ratio, masses of each component, buffer capacity, effective pH range and recipe by volume.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: pH = pKa + log10([A-]/[HA]). Valid where both species are present in appreciable amounts, roughly within one pH unit of the pKa, and where concentrations substantially exceed 10^-6 M. Buffer capacity peaks at pH equal to pKa.
