Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Final alcohol by volume equals the sum of each component volume times its ABV, divided by the total volume including dilution water from melted ice. Stirred drinks gain roughly 20% to 25% dilution and shaken drinks more, and ignoring dilution overstates final strength by a quarter or more.
