Collision Calculator (Elastic And Inelastic)
Collision Calculator (Elastic And Inelastic): a planned Super Calculator tool. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet.
Collision Calculator (Elastic And Inelastic) is a planned calculator in the science section of Super Calculator, covering physics: mechanics.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: masses, initial velocities, collision type or coefficient of restitution and dimension.
Outputs: final velocities, kinetic energy before and after, energy lost, impulse exchanged and center of mass velocity.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Momentum is conserved in all collisions. Perfectly elastic collisions also conserve kinetic energy, giving v1’ = ((m1-m2)u1 + 2m2u2)/(m1+m2). Perfectly inelastic collisions give a common final velocity (m1u1 + m2u2)/(m1+m2). The coefficient of restitution e interpolates between the two.
