Conic Section Calculator (Parabola, Ellipse, Hyperbola)
Conic Section Calculator (Parabola, Ellipse, Hyperbola): a planned Super Calculator tool. Stub page while the tool and its worked example are prepared.
Conic Section Calculator (Parabola, Ellipse, Hyperbola) is a planned calculator in the mathematics section of Super Calculator, covering coordinate geometry.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: general conic coefficients, or standard form parameters and conic type.
Outputs: conic type, center or vertex, foci, directrix, eccentricity, axes lengths, asymptotes, rotation angle and standard equation.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Classify Ax^2 + Bxy + Cy^2 + Dx + Ey + F = 0 by the discriminant B^2 - 4AC: negative gives an ellipse, zero a parabola, positive a hyperbola. Rotate by theta = (1/2)atan(B/(A-C)) to eliminate the cross term, then complete the square for the standard form.
