Cubic Equation Solver

Cubic Equation: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers coefficients a, b and c. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet.

Cubic Equation Solver is a planned calculator in the mathematics section of Super Calculator, covering algebra and number theory.

What this calculator will compute

Inputs: coefficients a, b, c and d.

Outputs: three roots (real or complex), discriminant, nature of roots and factored form.

Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Depress ax^3 + bx^2 + cx + d = 0 by the substitution x = t - b/(3a), then apply Cardano’s formula. The trigonometric form is required in the casus irreducibilis, where three real roots arise from a negative discriminant and Cardano’s radicals become complex.
