Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Convert both civil dates to a proleptic Gregorian day number (Fliegel and Van Flandern JDN algorithm), subtract, then decompose the remainder into years, months and days by calendar walk rather than by dividing by 365.25. ISO 8601 defines the date representation; the year-month-day decomposition is order dependent and must be documented.
