Digital Storage Converter
Digital Storage: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers value (n) and source unit (label). Stub page while the tool and its worked example are prepared.
Digital Storage Converter is a planned calculator in the conversions section of Super Calculator, covering unit conversion.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: value (n), source unit (label), target unit (label) and prefix system (decimal/binary).
Outputs: converted value (n), both systems (table) and difference (%).
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Decimal SI prefixes and binary IEC prefixes differ: a gigabyte is 10 to the 9 bytes while a gibibyte is 2 to the 30, about 7.4% larger, and the gap widens with each prefix step. Drive manufacturers use decimal and operating systems frequently report binary, which is why a one terabyte drive shows as 931 gibibytes.
