Duct Sizing Calculator
Duct Sizing: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers air flow rate. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet. Scope is.
Duct Sizing Calculator is a planned calculator in the engineering section of Super Calculator, covering building services engineering.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: air flow rate, design friction rate or target velocity, duct shape and aspect ratio, material roughness and fitting inventory.
Outputs: required round diameter, equivalent rectangular sizes, air velocity, pressure loss per unit length, total static pressure and noise risk flag.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Equal friction method sizes ducts to a constant pressure loss per unit length, commonly 0.08 to 0.10 inches of water per 100 feet or about 1 Pa per meter. Round duct diameter from the friction chart or the Darcy-Weisbach relation; rectangular ducts convert through the equivalent diameter formula 1.3(ab)^0.625/(a+b)^0.25.
