Outputs: area (m2 or sq ft), material required (m2), packs to buy (n), underlay required (m2) and estimated cost (currency).
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Packs required equal room area times (1 plus waste factor) divided by pack coverage, rounded up. Waste factor runs about 5% for a straight lay, 10% for diagonal, and higher for herringbone or a patterned repeat, and the repeat length itself drives waste on patterned material.
