Friction Calculator
Friction: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers mass or normal force, coefficient of friction or material pair and incline angle. Stub page. Not published.
Friction Calculator is a planned calculator in the science section of Super Calculator, covering physics: mechanics.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: mass or normal force, coefficient of friction or material pair, incline angle and applied force.
Outputs: friction force, normal force, net force, acceleration, angle of repose and motion verdict.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Kinetic friction f = mu_k N; static friction satisfies f no greater than mu_s N, with mu_s generally exceeding mu_k. On an incline, N = mg cos(theta) and the driving component is mg sin(theta), so sliding begins when tan(theta) exceeds mu_s.
