Gear Ratio Calculator

Gear Ratio: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers tooth counts per stage. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet.

Gear Ratio Calculator is a planned calculator in the engineering section of Super Calculator, covering mechanical engineering.

What this calculator will compute

Inputs: tooth counts per stage, input speed, input torque, train type, module or diametral pitch and efficiency per stage.

Outputs: overall ratio, output speed and torque, center distance, pitch diameters, stage-by-stage breakdown and efficiency-adjusted output.

Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Ratio = driven teeth divided by driving teeth, equal to the inverse speed ratio and the direct torque ratio in an ideal train. Compound trains multiply the stage ratios. Planetary gear ratios follow the Willis equation relating sun, ring and carrier speeds.
