Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Fuel consumption scales approximately with load: a diesel generator consumes roughly a fixed rate per kilowatt hour produced plus a no-load overhead, so runtime equals tank capacity divided by consumption at the modeled load fraction. Generator sizing must account for motor starting surge, typically several times running watts.
