Generator Sizing Calculator
Generator Sizing: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers connected loads with power factors. Stub page while the tool and its worked example are prepared.
Generator Sizing Calculator is a planned calculator in the engineering section of Super Calculator, covering electrical engineering.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: connected loads with power factors, largest motor and starting method, altitude and ambient temperature, fuel type, phase and voltage and allowable voltage dip (%).
Outputs: required running kW, required kVA, starting kVA demand, derating for altitude and temperature, recommended set size and fuel consumption estimate.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Sum the running kW of connected loads, then add the largest motor starting kVA requirement, which typically dominates. Required alternator kVA = kW divided by the power factor, with a step load and voltage dip limit checked against the alternator subtransient reactance.
