Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: HM = n / sum(1/x_i). The correct average for rates measured over a fixed numerator, such as average speed over equal distances. Weighted form HM = sum(w_i) / sum(w_i/x_i). Always no greater than the geometric mean, which is no greater than the arithmetic mean.
