Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Value_target = Value_base * (CPI_target / CPI_base) using an official consumer price index series. The index choice changes the answer: CPI-U, CPI-W and chained CPI diverge over long horizons, as do the UK RPI and CPIH series.
