Margin Of Error Calculator

Margin Of Error: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers sample size n. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet. Scope is.

Margin Of Error Calculator is a planned calculator in the mathematics section of Super Calculator, covering statistics and probability.

What this calculator will compute

Inputs: sample size n, proportion p or standard deviation, confidence level (%) and population size (optional).

Outputs: margin of error (%), confidence interval and required sample size for a target margin.

Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: MOE = z_(alpha/2) * sqrt(p(1-p)/n) for a proportion, or z * sigma / sqrt(n) for a mean. Worst-case planning uses p = 0.5, which maximizes the variance term. Finite population correction applies for large sampling fractions.
