Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: NPV = sum over t of CF_t / (1 + r)^t, with CF_0 conventionally negative. Support irregular period lengths by discounting on actual days rather than assuming equal periods, which is where spreadsheet NPV misleads users.
