Power Factor Correction Calculator
Power Factor Correction: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers real power. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet.
Power Factor Correction Calculator is a planned calculator in the engineering section of Super Calculator, covering electrical engineering.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: real power, current power factor, target power factor, supply voltage and frequency and phase configuration.
Outputs: reactive power to correct, required capacitance per phase, capacitor kVAR rating, current reduction, apparent power before and after and estimated billing saving.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Power factor = real power divided by apparent power = cos(phi) for sinusoidal conditions. Required correction capacitance Q = P(tan(phi1) - tan(phi2)), with C = Q/(2 pi f V^2) for single phase. Three phase delta and star connections need different capacitor values for the same correction.
