Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: R squared = 1 - SS_res / SS_tot. Adjusted R squared = 1 - (1 - R2) * (n - 1) / (n - k - 1), which penalizes added predictors and can fall when a useless predictor is added.
