RAID Capacity And Storage Sizing Calculator
RAID Capacity And Storage Sizing: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers drive count and capacity, RAID level and hot spares. Stub page. Not published yet.
RAID Capacity And Storage Sizing Calculator is a planned calculator in the technology section of Super Calculator, covering computer science and technical.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: drive count and capacity, RAID level, hot spares, filesystem, free space reserve (%) and drive failure rate for rebuild risk.
Outputs: raw and usable capacity, fault tolerance, read and write performance factor, rebuild time estimate, cost per usable terabyte and binary versus decimal capacity.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: RAID 0 gives n times the smallest drive; RAID 1 gives one drive of capacity; RAID 5 gives (n-1) drives; RAID 6 gives (n-2); RAID 10 gives n/2. Usable capacity further reduces by the decimal to binary conversion of about 7% at the terabyte scale and by filesystem overhead.
