Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Panel count equals usable roof area divided by panel area after deducting setback and access zones required by fire code; system size equals panel count times panel rating. Usable area is normally well below total roof area, which is why area divided by panel area overstates capacity.
