Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Tax-exclusive: tax = net * rate, gross = net * (1 + rate). Tax-inclusive reverse: net = gross / (1 + rate), tax = gross - net. United States sales tax is destination-based and layered by state, county and city; value-added tax and goods and services tax operate on an input credit mechanism and are structurally different.
