Stress, Strain And Hooke's Law Calculator

Stress, Strain And Hooke's Law: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers force. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet.

Stress, Strain And Hooke’s Law Calculator is a planned calculator in the engineering section of Super Calculator, covering structural engineering.

What this calculator will compute

Inputs: force, cross sectional area, original length, elastic modulus or material and yield strength.

Outputs: stress, strain, elongation, safety factor against yield, elastic or plastic verdict, lateral strain and strain energy.

Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Normal stress sigma = F/A, strain epsilon = delta L/L0, and Hooke’s law sigma = E epsilon within the elastic range. Axial deformation delta = FL/(AE). Poisson’s ratio relates lateral to axial strain. Beyond yield the relationship is nonlinear and irreversible.
