Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Volume equals surface area times average depth, where average depth for a sloped floor equals (shallow depth plus deep depth) divided by two; circular and kidney shapes use their own area formulas with a shape factor. Conversion to gallons or liters follows.
