Thermal Expansion Calculator
Thermal Expansion: a planned Super Calculator tool. Covers original dimension. Stub page: the tool, its formula and a worked example are not published yet.
Thermal Expansion Calculator is a planned calculator in the science section of Super Calculator, covering physics: thermodynamics.
What this calculator will compute
Inputs: original dimension, coefficient of expansion or material, temperature change, constraint condition and elastic modulus.
Outputs: change in length, area or volume, final dimension, thermal stress if constrained and required expansion gap.
Formula, recorded as scope and not yet verified against a primary source: Linear expansion delta L = alpha L0 delta T; area expansion uses approximately 2 alpha; volumetric expansion uses beta approximately 3 alpha for isotropic solids. Constrained expansion generates thermal stress sigma = E alpha delta T, independent of length.
